How to cancel an AI girlfriend subscription, get a refund and delete your data

Step 1: find out who bills you

Where you cancel depends on how you paid, not on which app it is. Check the receipt email from when you subscribed, or your card statement:

• Paid on the website by card or crypto: cancel inside the app's account settings on the web. If the name on your statement is unfamiliar, compare it with the company named in the app's terms of service.
• Paid through the App Store: the charge comes from Apple, and you cancel in your Apple account.
• Paid through Google Play: the charge comes from Google, and you cancel in Google Play.
• Paid with PayPal: cancel in the app, then check PayPal's list of automatic payments as well.

Apple's support page makes the same point: if you cannot find a receipt from Apple for a subscription, you might have bought it from another company, so check your bank or card statement to see which company bills you and cancel with them.

How to cancel on the website

Most AI girlfriend apps sell subscriptions directly on the web. The steps are nearly identical everywhere:

1. Log in on the website with the same account you paid with.
2. Open your profile or settings and look for Subscription, Billing, Manage plan or Unsubscribe.
3. Choose Cancel and click through the confirmation screens. Some apps show a discount offer first; you can skip it.
4. Take a screenshot of the confirmation and keep the cancellation email.
5. Check the subscription page again the next day. It should show an end date rather than a renewal date.

Canceling stops the next charge but does not end your access straight away. The apps whose cancellation pages we read (Candy AI, Nomi AI, OurDream and Secrets AI) all keep your paid features until the end of the billing period you have paid for.

How to cancel through the App Store or Google Play

iPhone or iPad

1. Open Settings and tap your name.
2. Tap Subscriptions.
3. Tap the app's subscription.
4. Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down to find it.

On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, then your name again, then Subscriptions. These steps come from Apple's cancel-a-subscription page, which adds that if there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already canceled.

Android

1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
2. Tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
3. Select the app and tap Cancel subscription.
4. Follow the instructions to confirm.

Google's help page is explicit that uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription, and that you keep access for the time you have already paid for.

Can you get a refund on an AI girlfriend app?

Rarely, and only if you move fast. Refund terms vary, but the pattern is the same: a short window, and little or nothing once you have used the plan's tokens or time. Some examples from the apps' own pages:

• Candy AI's terms allow a request within 24 hours of paying, refused if you have used more than 20 tokens, with a 14-day withdrawal right for EU and UK residents minus what you used (terms, section 10.4).
• OurDream refuses refunds once more than 25% of a purchase is used, and crypto payments cannot be refunded.
• Secrets AI's help page says canceling does not refund the current billing period.
• Infatuated AI's refund policy says all sales are final, for subscriptions and for tokens once added.
• Nomi's refund policy says all payments are nonrefundable, with case-by-case exceptions at its discretion, and Replika's help center says all purchases are final at the point of sale.

If you paid through Apple, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com: sign in, choose Request a refund, pick a reason and select the subscription. Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours, and eligibility depends on the purchase and where you live. For Google Play purchases, Google's refund policy page notes that most apps are made by third-party developers and that contacting the developer is often the quickest route.

Ask anyway if a renewal surprised you and you have not used the app since. State when you canceled, quote the order number and keep it short. The strict rules above are also a reason to pay month to month at first; our AI girlfriend cost guide shows the price difference for each app.

Delete your chats and account after you cancel

Canceling does not delete anything. Secrets AI's help page says that after you cancel, your chats, memories and generated content are all preserved. Deleting does not cancel either: Replika's help center notes that deleting the app or your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. So do it in this order: cancel first, then delete.

Deletion options differ by app:

• Nomi AI: Account Settings, then Delete Account. Nomi says all personal information, Nomis and messages are permanently deleted, and the step cannot be undone.
• OurDream: the danger zone at the bottom of your profile page. Its help center says deletion removes all generations, unpublished characters and chat history, takes 24 to 48 hours and ends access even if paid time is left.

If an app has no delete button, email its support address and ask for your account and personal data to be erased. Privacy laws back you up in many places. California residents can ask businesses to delete personal information they collected, and businesses must respond within 45 days. In the UK, organizations have one calendar month to respond to an erasure request. Mozilla's 2024 review found that about half of romantic chatbots did not give every user the right to delete, so expect some pushback.

Cancellation steps for specific apps

These steps come from each app's own help pages or terms. Menus change, so if a label differs, look for the nearest match.

Still being charged after you canceled

An unexpected charge after canceling usually has a simple cause:

• You canceled in one place but pay in another, for example on the website while Apple bills you.
• You have two accounts, often one made with Google or Apple sign-in and one with email.
• You deleted the app or your account instead of canceling.
• The charge is a token pack, or a renewal that went through before you canceled.

Contact the app's support with your receipt and cancellation screenshot first. If that fails and you paid by credit card, you can dispute the charge with your card issuer. The FTC says US cardholders have 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent to dispute a billing error, in writing, to the issuer's address for billing inquiries.
