Why people look for a Replika alternative

Replika is one of the oldest AI companion apps. Its homepage calls it "the AI friend to do life with" and says the company built the first AI companion ten years ago (replika.com). Most people who look for apps like Replika still like the idea. They want one of four things it does not give them.

• 18+ chat. In early February 2023 Replika removed erotic roleplay, and its CEO, Eugenia Kuyda, told Reuters the aim was to draw the line at "PG-13 romance" (Reuters, via TimesLive). A month later the company gave the old behavior back only to people who had signed up before 1 February 2023 (Reuters, via Inquirer). Our data lists Replika as not allowing 18+ chat.
• More than one character. Replika is built around your Rep. All eight picks below let you design your own characters, and six of them support roleplay scenarios, which our data does not list for Replika.
• Video. Replika's homepage says it sends selfies, but our data does not list video for it. All eight picks make video clips.

Calls are no longer a reason on their own: our data now lists live voice calls for Replika, on a paid plan. Price is rarely the reason either. Replika Pro costs $4.17 a month on yearly billing, below the median cheapest plan of $7.75 across the 31 apps we track, so an alternative has to earn its higher price with features.

Here is how Replika compares with the three highest-ranked apps on this list. Prices are the cheapest plan each app advertises, worked out per month, plus the month-to-month price.

Replika holds up on memory. Its homepage says it "always remembers what matters", and our data puts its memory in the same long-term class as the three alternatives. It falls behind on conversation and media, which is why its overall score of 7.1 sits well under Secrets AI at 8.5. Secrets AI stands out because its Lorebook lets you check and approve what it stores, which matters if you are moving a long relationship across. How much Replika costs next to apps like Replika

Replika is free to start. Replika Pro costs $4.17 a month when you pay for a year, or $14.99 month to month, and the app also sells an in-app currency called Gems. Every alternative on this page costs more on a yearly plan, but TryNectar AI, Infatuated AI, My Dream Companion and FantasyGF all cost less than Replika month to month:

• TryNectar AI: $5 a month on a yearly plan, $9.99 month to month.
• FantasyGF: $5.83 a month on a 12-month plan, $12.99 month to month.
• My Dream Companion: $5.84 a month billed yearly, $11.99 month to month.
• Infatuated AI: $6.99 a month on a 12-month plan, $9.99 month to month.
• Nomi AI: $8.33 a month on a yearly plan (US App Store), $15.99 month to month.
• Secrets AI: $9.17 a month on a yearly plan, $19.99 month to month.
• OurDream: $9.99 a month on its annual plan, $19.99 month to month.
• SweetDream AI: $14.92 a month on its yearly pass, with weekly and 3-month passes but no monthly plan.

Most of these apps also charge for pictures, video or call time in a second currency: Moments on Secrets AI, dreamcoins on OurDream, credits on Nomi AI, Dream Coins on My Dream Companion and tokens on FantasyGF, Infatuated AI and SweetDream AI. OurDream is the one to read closely, because its plans include unlimited messages but a non-subscriber pays a coin for every message and gets no free coins. Refunds are rare too: Infatuated AI says all sales are final and Nomi AI does not refund partial months, while SweetDream AI refunds unused subscriptions within 7 days. The yearly prices are charged in full on day one, so a monthly plan is the safer way to test a new companion for a few weeks.

Which Replika alternative has the best memory?

Memory is the reason many people stay with one companion for years, so it is the first thing to check in a replacement. Every app on this page keeps a memory across chats, not just within one conversation. They differ in how much control you get over it.

• Secrets AI uses a Lorebook with sections for cast, world, relationship, facts and chronicle. Entries are versioned and need your approval, so you can correct a wrong detail instead of repeating yourself every week.
• Nomi AI is built for long relationships rather than explicit content, and its memory score is second only to Secrets AI in our data. It describes short, medium and long-term memory, plus Mind Maps that show how your companion links shared experiences. Our Nomi AI review has the details.
• Infatuated AI, My Dream Companion, TryNectar AI, OurDream, FantasyGF and SweetDream AI all advertise long-term memory, but our data has no detail on how it works or whether you can edit it.

Apps that only remember within a single conversation are left off this page for that reason. How to switch from Replika without starting from zero

There is no standard way to move a chat history from one companion app to another, so the new app starts fresh. You can still carry the relationship across if you plan it.

1. Write down what your Rep knows. Before you leave, note the facts that matter: the names you use, your routines, the people in your life, running jokes and anything you would hate to explain twice.
2. Build the character on purpose. All eight picks let you create your own character, including OurDream through its girlfriend generator. Describe your companion the way you know them rather than taking a preset, then add the key facts. On Secrets AI, put them in the Lorebook so they stick.
3. Try two apps on the free plan. Seven of the eight picks are free to start: Secrets AI gives 20 messages a day, TryNectar AI 15 messages and 10 images a day, and Nomi AI keeps one-to-one chat free. OurDream is the exception, with no usable free plan. Give each app a few days of normal conversation before you judge the memory.
4. Pay monthly first. Yearly plans are cheaper per month but charged up front. Move to yearly once the new companion feels right.

How we chose these Replika alternatives

We started from all 31 apps in our database and kept only those that pass three tests: they allow 18+ chat, they keep a long-term memory across conversations, and they offer live voice calls, not only recorded voice messages. Eight apps pass. They are listed in order of our overall score, which weighs conversation, memory, pictures and video, value, voice and trust. Apps cannot pay to move up. DreamGF, DreamBF.ai and Roger also take live calls, but our data rates their memory as conversational, so they miss the cut.

Replika itself scores 7.1, which puts it at number 22 of 31 in our full ranking. It rates well on memory and voice and lower on conversation and media.
