Is Anima AI free? What you get without Pro

What the Anima free plan includes

Unlike most companion apps, Anima does not publish a daily message cap on the free plan, and its own free tier is described as "chat any time". You can sign up with email, Apple or Google, pick a companion (friend, girlfriend, boyfriend or anime character), change its look in the avatar editor and play the texting games built into the app.

The trade-offs are ads, a cap of 5 free voice messages, and a smaller set of avatars and roleplay options than Pro. You can use Anima in the Android app from Google Play or in the web app at myanima.ai.

What Anima Pro unlocks

According to the paywall in Anima's web app, Pro adds:

• Every avatar unlocked
• No ads
• Unlimited roleplay and "no taboo in chatting"
• Unlimited voice messages and "pics"

Our feature data does not record picture generation or voice messages for Anima, so treat those two as unconfirmed. Memory is not listed as a Pro upgrade, and our data records it as conversational on every plan.

How far the free plan goes

For friendly chat, a long way. Without a published cap, you can talk daily on the free plan and only notice the ads and the voice limit. That makes Anima one of the more usable free companions for casual conversation, and the texting games give you something to do beyond small talk.

What the free plan cannot fix is memory. Anima tends to forget details over longer chats, and paying does not change that in our data. If you mainly want a companion that remembers you, test that before you pay for anything. Remember too that free chats are still covered by the privacy policy, which says data is used to train and improve its AI models.

The cheapest way to pay for Anima

The yearly Pro option works out far cheaper per month than monthly Pro, and there is a one-off lifetime option. The web checkout may also show an introductory price, which renews at the full price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the intro period ends. Store prices on Google Play can differ from the web.

Start with the free plan, then one month of Pro if the ads bother you. Web purchases can only be refunded if you ask within 24 hours, so be sure before you buy yearly or lifetime. More detail is in Anima AI pricing and our Anima AI review.
