What the Janitor AI free plan includes

According to Janitor AI's help center (subscription FAQ), free users get:

• Unlimited chats with millions of bots
• The standard JanitorLLM model
• About 9k tokens of context
• The option to plug in your own API key or proxy for outside models

You can sign up with email, Google, Apple, Discord or X, and no card is needed. Creating bots and personas is free too. Our Janitor AI review covers the rest of the platform.

What Janitor+ adds

Janitor+ is the only paid plan. It adds:

• Five times more context, so characters see far more of the chat
• Priority access for faster replies
• Monthly swipes with Janitor AI's best models
• A golden username, a checkmark and comment reactions
• Router on the web, to use outside models without a proxy or API key

How far free chat goes

There is no message cap, so free chat never runs out. The limit is context: at about 9k tokens, characters see roughly the last several thousand words of a chat, and anything older fades. For one-evening scenes that is plenty. For a story that runs for weeks, you will need to write key facts into the chat memory or pay for Janitor+.

Using your own API key or proxy

Free users can connect an API key or proxy from a provider such as OpenRouter to chat with outside models. Janitor AI does not charge for this, but the provider does, per message, so "free" depends on the model you pick. Some providers offer free models with limits of their own.

Janitor+ adds Router, a web-only option that lets subscribers use third-party models without setting up a proxy or pasting keys (Janitor Router). If you only want better models and do not mind setup, your own key can cost less than Janitor+; if you want it to just work, Router is simpler.
