Is Janitor AI safe? Company, age checks and privacy explained

Janitor AI is safe to use in the basic sense: it is run by Janitorai Inc., a Delaware-addressed company with official 17+ apps, a status page, strict rules on minor content and third-party age checks in some countries. What to watch is privacy, because its terms and privacy policy blocked our checks, and third-party proxies you connect have their own data rules.

Janitorai Inc. lists a Claymont, Delaware address, and the App Store seller is JanitorAI, INC. The iPhone app, "Janitor: Interactive Stories", was released on 29 November 2025 and is rated 17+ (App Store); on Google Play it is rated Mature 17+ with more than a million downloads (Google Play). Billing and what shows on your statement

On the web, cards are handled by Stripe, so Janitor AI never sees your card details. In the apps, you pay through the App Store or Google Play. Janitor AI does not publish its card statement text or advertise discreet billing; app store charges appear under Apple or Google. Subscriptions are generally non-refundable. Privacy and your data

Janitor AI's website returned a block page to our automated checks, so we could not read its terms or privacy policy directly. What the app store labels say: Google Play's data safety section lists no data shared with third parties while collecting personal info and app activity, and the App Store label says data is not linked to you.

One risk is specific to Janitor AI. If you connect your own API key or a proxy, your messages go to that provider too, under its own privacy rules. Deleting your Janitor AI account

Go to Settings, open the Security tab, scroll down, choose Delete account and enter the 6-digit code emailed to you (help center). Deletion permanently removes your posts, characters, personas and profile. Support cannot delete an account for you, so you need access to the account email. Age checks and content rules

Janitor AI is 18+ only, and users suspected to be under 18 are banned. Users on IP addresses in Australia (from 24 April 2026), Brazil and the UK (from 15 June 2026) must pass a one-time k-ID check, by on-device face age estimate, ID scan or AgeKey, and Janitor AI receives only a pass or fail (age verification). Its help center says it chose checks over blocking those countries, citing fines of up to $35 million in Australia, $9.5 million in Brazil and £18 million in the UK.

Bots with sexual or romantic themes must be tagged Limitless. Minor-coded characters or personas, age regression, real minors and aged-up real people are banned with zero tolerance, and separate policies cover violence, self-harm, hate, harassment, family content and real-life tragedies. Reported incidents and outages

We found no reported data breach of Janitor AI in the sources we track. Janitor AI runs a public status page, which showed all systems operational with no reports in the seven days to 29 September 2026 (status page). "Janitor AI down" is a common search because the free model slows at peak times; the status page is the place to check.

How to use Janitor AI safely

Keep API keys private. Only paste them into Janitor AI's own settings, and set a spending limit with your provider.
Keep real details out of chats, personas and bots: full names, addresses, workplaces and photos of real people.
Use the official apps from the App Store or Google Play, not unofficial APKs.
Keep your account email secure, since you need it to delete the account.
