Cosplay AI girlfriend apps ranked, and the copyright rules to know

Two kinds of cosplay AI girlfriend

The phrase covers two different things, and it helps to know which you want:

• A girlfriend who cosplays. Her hobby or job is making costumes and going to conventions. She talks about wigs, foam armor, photo shoots and con schedules. HeyGF's 3 professional cosplayers are this kind.
• A character shown in costume. Pictures put her in an outfit inspired by a genre or a show. My Dream Companion's filter, Kupid AI's category and DreamGF's gallery lean this way.

Six of the 18 apps we checked show cosplay. Secrets AI has an AI Cosplay Generator too, but it is an image tool rather than a chat category, so it is not ranked here. If you are unsure which you want, start with a cosplayer character; she can still show you her latest costume in pictures. For drawn characters rather than costumed ones, see the anime AI girlfriend rankings.

Copyright: original costumes are the safer choice

Dressing a character as a famous one runs into the apps' rules. Secrets AI bans public characters based on copyrighted anime, film, TV or games, TryNectar AI bans direct use of copyrighted characters, and GoLove AI and Candy AI list copyright violations among banned content. Private characters sometimes get more room, but public listings are strict.

The fix is easy: design an original costume in a familiar genre. A starship pilot's flight suit, a knight's silver armor with a blue cape, a magical-girl outfit in her own colors. You keep the fun of the costume, her pictures stay consistent because the model is not guessing at someone else's design, and the character cannot be removed for copyright.

Writing a cosplayer character

Rin, 26, a cosplayer and prop maker in Los Angeles. Spends
weeknights sanding foam armor in her garage and weekends at
conventions. Perfectionist about seams, terrible at sleeping
before a con, and keeps a list of every costume she has made
since she was 19. Wants you to help her pick next year's build.

A cosplayer character comes with built-in stories: a deadline before a big convention, a costume contest, a wig disaster the night before. Ask her what she is building this month and she always has something to say. More ready-made histories are in our backstory ideas guide.

Picture tips for costume looks

Costume pictures come out best with a short, exact list of pieces and a setting:

• Costume pieces: "silver chest armor, blue cape, brown leather boots, wooden staff".
• Wig and makeup: the wig color and style, and one makeup detail.
• Setting: a convention hall, a photo shoot in a forest, a workshop full of props.

Keep her face description the same across costumes so she still looks like herself. Free plans rarely include pictures: HeyGF's and Kupid AI's free plans include none, while GoLove AI says standard photos are free. See the AI girlfriend pictures rankings for what each image costs.

What it costs

My Dream Companion's yearly plan works out to $5.84 a month and DreamGF's first year to $5.83, while Kupid AI's yearly pass works out to $14.92 and GoLove AI's to $9.99. All five have a free plan. DreamGF's yearly plan renews at more than four times its first-year price, and Kupid AI says all sales are final, so check terms before a long plan. My Dream Companion also runs pricing experiments, so the plan you are shown can differ from the one quoted here. See our My Dream Companion review for its full plan list.
