How to cancel your Character AI subscription

Cancel Character AI step by step

1. Go to Settings, then Account, then Manage
2. Click Manage to open the Stripe Customer Portal and enter your account email
3. Open the secure link emailed to you and log in to the Customer Portal
4. Cancel the c.ai+ subscription; it stays active to the end of the billing period

If you pay through Apple: Cancel in iPhone Settings, Apple ID, Subscriptions (per Apple Support).

If you pay through Google Play: Cancel at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions (per Google Play Support).

Not sure where you paid? Check your email for the receipt. A receipt from Apple or Google means an app store subscription; a receipt from Character.AI or Stripe means a web subscription. The same steps cancel c.ai lite.

Can you get a refund?

Usually not. Character.AI's payments are non-refundable except where the law requires, and there are no partial refunds for unused time within a billing period (c.ai lite FAQ).

• Paid on the web: submit a support ticket under "Payments and purchases" and explain the problem, for example a duplicate charge.
• Paid through Apple: request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides under its own policy.
• Paid through Google Play: request it from your Google Play order history. Google decides.

Yearly c.ai+ is charged in full up front, so if you might stop soon, cancel right after buying to prevent a surprise renewal. You keep access until the year ends. Prices are on our Character AI pricing page.

What happens after you cancel

Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. After that, the account drops to the free tier. Because messaging is unlimited on the free plan, you can keep chatting with the same characters; you lose the premium chat styles, the better memory and the ad-free experience. Cancelling a subscription does not delete the account, so your characters and chats are still there on the free tier.

Deleting your account as well

Cancelling does not delete your data. To remove the account for good (help center):

1. Web: Profile, Profile Settings, Account, Manage Account and Data, Delete Account.
2. App: Profile, the settings icon, Remove Account.

Deletion is permanent. Cancel any app store subscription before you delete, because Apple and Google keep billing a subscription even after the account is gone. Our guide on deleting an AI companion account covers what to ask for when you want your data erased.

If a charge looks unfamiliar

Character.AI does not publish its card statement text, so search your email for "Character.AI", "c.ai" or a Stripe receipt, and check your Apple and Google subscription lists. If you find nothing and do not recognize the charge, contact your card issuer. If someone in your household used your card in the app, Apple and Google both let you ask for a refund on purchases you did not make.
