Is My Dream Companion free? What you get before you pay

What the My Dream Companion free plan includes

You sign up with an email address or a Google account, and the free tier does not ask for a card. The site's FAQ even allows a pseudonym and a throwaway email address. The terms then give free users 1 character and a limited number of messages, "typically between 10 to 20".

The site's own pages do not agree on the exact number. The terms give a range, our My Dream Companion review recorded the subscription page listing 20 free messages, and a sign-up banner offers 25 or 30 free Dream Coins, which are a separate currency, not messages. The safe reading is that you get somewhere between 10 and 20 messages, plus a small coin gift.

Free Dream Coins: what they can buy

Dream Coins pay for pictures, video, character albums and live features such as calls. Besides the sign-up gift, the terms say you can earn more free credits by completing tasks, and the site advertises coin giveaways and referral rewards.

The subscription page equates Premium's 100 coins a month to about 33 images, 12 minutes of calls or 5 videos. At that rate, a 25 to 30 coin gift is worth roughly 8 to 10 pictures or 3 minutes of calls. The pages do not say which coin features a free account can use before subscribing, so treat the gift as a sample, not a plan.

What needs Premium

The plan list puts almost everything behind Premium:

• 6,000 text messages a month instead of 10 to 20 in total
• 18+ content, uncensored in-chat pictures and NSFW video
• Creating your own characters beyond the free one
• Voice messages and standard chat memory
• 100 Dream Coins a month for pictures, video and calls

Unlimited messages and 800 coins a month sit on the top plan, which costs $44.99 month to month. Our My Dream Companion pricing page breaks down both plans and what the coins buy.

How far 10 to 20 free messages go

Ten to twenty messages is one short conversation. Use it to check the writing style, how fast replies come, and whether the character sticks to the personality you picked. You will not get far enough to test memory or the adult side, which is locked to paying members anyway.

Since the free plan gives you only 1 character, pick carefully. Build a character with the details that matter to you rather than taking a preset, then spend your messages on that one. If you want more room to test several characters, the free plans below go further.

The cheapest paid plan

Premium is the cheapest paid option: $5.84 a month on the yearly plan, charged as $69.99 once a year, or $11.99 month to month. The site runs price experiments, so the Premium price you are shown can differ from ours; check the checkout screen before you pay.

The terms offer no refunds except for errors on the company's side or technical faults. That makes one month of Premium the safer first step, even though the yearly rate is lower.
