Why no real AI girlfriend runs on WhatsApp
Businesses reach WhatsApp users through Meta's WhatsApp Business platform, and Meta changed its terms for AI companies in October 2025. From January 15, 2026, "AI Providers" are "strictly prohibited" from using it when AI is the primary rather than incidental function, and OpenAI, Perplexity and Microsoft said their WhatsApp chatbots would stop working (TechCrunch). Customer-service bots are not affected.
The EU pushed back. On June 9, 2026, the European Commission ordered Meta "to restore free access to WhatsApp for rival general-purpose AI assistants" (European Commission). That order covers general assistants in the EU; it does not make WhatsApp a home for 18+ companions, and none of the apps we rank has announced a WhatsApp version.
Meta AI, the assistant built into WhatsApp, is Meta's own general-purpose helper, not a companion app built around a relationship with memory, pictures and calls.
"AI girlfriend WhatsApp number": what you are really messaging
Numbers shared on social media, forums and ad pages as an "AI girlfriend on WhatsApp" fall into three groups: a person pretending to be an AI, a small operator running an unofficial bot, or a scam. None comes with a named company, a privacy policy or a refund route.
The bigger issue is your own number. On WhatsApp your phone number is your identity: it can reveal your name and profile photo, it ties the chat to your real contacts, and once shared it cannot be taken back. Kaspersky notes that scam bots are common in online dating because one scammer "can run many conversations at once" (Kaspersky).
- Do not message a number that promises a free AI girlfriend.
- Never send photos of yourself, and never pay through a link sent in chat.
- If a chat turns to threats or demands for money, stop replying, keep the messages and report the number in WhatsApp.

Getting WhatsApp-style notifications
