Google Play, Chrome or APK: how each pick installs
Three of the nine have Google Play apps. Five install from Chrome as web apps, and one ships its own APK file. We checked the apps' own pages, the Play listings and the research files behind our reviews on September 29, 2026.

Google Play's developer policy bans "apps that contain or promote sexual content or profanity, including pornography" (Google Play policy), which is why the 18+ apps stay in the browser. Nomi AI fits the store by allowing adult chat but no explicit images.
Installing a web app from Chrome
On Android, a web app installed from Chrome gets its own icon in your app drawer, opens without the browser bar and can send notifications once you allow them. The steps take under a minute:
- Open the app's official website in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Confirm, then open it from the new icon and allow notifications if you want replies to show up.
Some sites show their own install button. Kupid AI, for example, offers free pictures for installing its web app. Nothing is downloaded from outside Chrome, so Android's unknown-apps warning never appears, and the app updates itself every time it loads. If you want the full comparison of store apps and web apps, our page on AI girlfriend apps for iPhone and Android covers it.
Google Play billing or Google Pay on a website
The payment route decides where you cancel and who handles refunds.
- Google Play billing (Nomi AI, Replika, Anima): you pay in your local currency through your Google account. To cancel, open the Play Store app, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Refunds for store purchases are handled by Google.
- Google Pay on a website (Secrets AI, Candy AI, Selira AI, Joi AI, GoLove AI, LusyChat): Google Pay just fills in your card. The subscription belongs to the app's website, it does not appear in the Play Store, and you cancel it in your account there.
Web apps often bill under a neutral name. Candy AI shows as EverAI, Secrets AI as S LABS INC and LusyChat as LusyChat AI. If a charge looks unfamiliar, check that list before calling your bank, and see our page on AI girlfriend apps with discreet billing.
Fake Google Play listings that use real app names
Search Google Play for the name of a popular 18+ app and you will often find an app that looks official but is not. The research files behind our reviews turned up these:
- "FantasyGF - AI Roleplay Chat" is published by a developer called Gaming DevEgy, with a China address and a Gmail support address, not by FantasyGF's Romanian operator. It was rated 2.7 stars and contains ads.
- "My Lovely: Feel Real AI Chat" comes from a different developer than MyLovely AI's Spanish operator.
- "Golove: Ai Connect App Help" is unrelated to GoLove AI.
- No Google Play app was found from DreamGF's operator or from SweetDream AI's operator.
Before installing, tap the developer name on the listing and compare it with the company in the app's terms. For Nomi AI it is Glimpse.ai, for Replika it is Luka, Inc. and for Anima it is LABANE CORP. Limited. Anything else is a copy that may charge for a subscription the real app never sees.
APK files: when they are official
Of the apps we rank, only LusyChat, Muah AI and GirlfriendGPT distribute their own Android APKs, each from its own website. Everything else you find as an "AI girlfriend APK" on mirror sites, forums or Telegram channels is either a repackaged copy or a modified version, and those are the files most likely to carry malware or steal your login. Web apps from Chrome give you the same features without any file to install.
If you do install an APK from an official site, Android asks you to allow installs from that browser once. Turn the permission off again afterwards. Our page on AI girlfriend APK downloads explains the risks in detail.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI girlfriend app on Android?
Secrets AI (8.5) is our top pick; it installs from Chrome as a web app and takes Google Pay. The highest-ranked app with a real Google Play download is Nomi AI, and Replika is the most popular SFW companion on Google Play.
Is there a free AI girlfriend for Android?
Yes. Selira AI offers unlimited free text chat in Chrome, Secrets AI allows 20 free messages a day, and Replika and Anima let you chat for free in their Google Play apps. Paid plans unlock calls, pictures and more.
Why is Candy AI not on Google Play?
Google Play's policy bans apps built around sexual content, so Candy AI runs as a web app you add to your home screen from Chrome. Any Play listing using the Candy AI name should be checked against its real operator, EverAI Limited.
Can I pay for an AI girlfriend with Google Pay?
Yes. Secrets AI, Candy AI, Selira AI, Joi AI, GoLove AI and LusyChat accept Google Pay on their websites. Nomi AI, Replika and Anima bill your Google account when you subscribe inside their Play apps.
Is Nomi AI available on Android?
Yes. Nomi's wiki lists an Android app on Google Play, an iOS app and a web version, all on one account. Subscriptions must be cancelled on the platform where you bought them.
Do AI girlfriend apps work on Samsung phones?
Yes. Samsung Galaxy phones run Android, so Google Play apps and Chrome web apps work the same way as on any other Android phone. Use Chrome for the install steps on this page.
