Free plan or free trial: the difference that matters
"No credit card" covers two different things, and only one of them is free with no strings.
- A free plan has no end date and no card. You chat within its limits for as long as you like, and nothing is ever charged. Every app ranked above offers one.
- A free trial unlocks the paid plan for a few days. It often needs a card, and it usually turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel in time.
Some apps offer both. Kindroid's free plan needs no card, but its 3-day premium trial needs a payment method on file and converts automatically. Joi's checkout describes a 7-day trial of the monthly plan that places a temporary hold on your card and then bills from day 8. Kupid AI's trial takes a small card verification charge, refunded, and then starts the subscription unless you cancel first.
So when a page says "try it free", look for the words plan or trial. If the next screen asks for a card, you are starting a trial, and the price it renews at matters more than the free days.
Apps that say "no card needed" in their own words
Several apps state it outright on their own pages, which is worth more than a missing card field:
- Kupid AI: no card needed, and the free tier does not expire. It includes 15 messages and 1 custom character.
- HeyGF: basic chat with no credit card, capped at 30 messages a day when signed in.

- FantasyGF: a "$0 trial" on its home page.

The pattern is clear. Text chat is the part you get for free, pictures come in small daily numbers on a few apps, and video and live calls wait behind a paid plan almost everywhere.
How to avoid a surprise charge
Most complaints about AI girlfriend billing start with a trial or a first-period discount, not a free plan. These steps keep you in control:
- Stay on the free plan until you hit its limit. There is no reason to enter a card while the free allowance still covers you.
- Read the renewal price, not the headline. DreamGF's first month renews at about double, and its first year renews at several times the first-year price.
- Check the billing period. Kupid AI sells weekly, 90-day and yearly plans, with no monthly option.
- Check the refund rules first. Infatuated AI says all sales are final, and Candy AI refunds only within 24 hours if you have used 20 tokens or fewer.
- Set a reminder for the day before any trial ends.

Paying later without a credit card
If you outgrow the free plan and would still rather not use a credit card, you have options:
