Kindroid review: a detailed custom companion, if you will pay
Our Kindroid review in one line: Kindroid is one of the most capable companion apps we track, with detailed custom companions, long-term memory, voice and video calls and group chats, scoring 8.2 out of 10 (#8 of 31). It is also one of the pricier ones: the subscription costs $13.99 a month or $11.67 a month on the yearly plan on the web, more in the app stores, and refunds are rare.
Kindroid is built for people who want to shape a companion in detail and keep it for a long time. You shape its personality, voice and avatar, and it keeps a layered memory that the subscription extends with what Kindroid calls Cascaded Memory. A subscriber can run up to 10 Kindroids and 20 group chats, make voice and video calls, and get selfies and video selfies. It also has proper iPhone and Android apps, rated 4.79 stars from about 8,900 ratings on the US App Store.
The free plan is more generous than most: unlimited messages on a smaller model, 2 Kindroids, basic long-term memory and a few selfies. The catch is cost at the top end. Two add-ons, Ultra and MAX, sit on top of the subscription for heavier users, and extra selfies and voice time are sold separately. The refund policy is strict, and the terms say users who dispute charges may be permanently banned.
If you want the deepest custom companion with calls and are happy to pay for it, Kindroid is one of the best choices we track, and buying on the web saves money. If you want an editable memory for long stories, Secrets AI scores higher, and Nomi AI offers a similar companion for less on a yearly plan.

Is Kindroid free?
Kindroid free planLimited free tier on the Lite model; group chats, video selfies, custom voices and the flagship models need a subscription
In full, the free plan gives unlimited messages on the smaller Lite model, 1 selfie every 2 hours (holding up to 2), 5,000 lifetime audio characters (about 5 minutes of voice), 2 Kindroids and basic long-term memory. That is enough to build a companion and chat daily without paying, which few apps allow.
New free users may also be offered a 3-day trial of the subscription. It needs a payment method on file, and on the web a verified phone number, and it converts to a paid plan unless you cancel. Details are in is Kindroid free.
Memory, chat and group chats
Kindroid's memory is layered. Free users get basic long-term memory; the subscription adds 4 times longer short-term context and Cascaded Memory, and Ultra goes further again. In our scoring, Kindroid's memory rates well, behind Secrets AI and Nomi AI.
Subscribers can run 20 group chats with their Kindroids, use rooms, and post to the Kindroid Social feed. Companions can be a friend, a partner or a mentor, and the subscription adds internet access and image sending. Kindroid calls itself unfiltered AI for adults, with moderation aimed at three red lines rather than at ordinary fiction. Compare memory across apps on AI girlfriends with memory.
Voice calls, video calls and selfies
Calls are a major strength. The subscription includes voice calls, video calls with a video avatar, custom voices and 1 million audio credits a month. Selfies get a 10 times higher cap than the free plan, and video selfies are included.

Notes
Messages are unlimited. Paid selfie credits: 50 for $5.99 web or $6.99 app; 100 for $9.99 web or $11.49 app (also usable for video selfies at in-app rates). Voice credits: 500,000 characters (about 500 minutes) for $11.99 web or $14.99 app; V3 voices bill at 1.5x per character. Extra slots: 1 Kindroid plus 2 group chats $2.99 web or $3.49 app; 4 plus 8 for $9.99 web or $11.49 app (one-time).
If you run out, selfie credits, voice credits and extra Kindroid slots are sold separately, and the newer V3 voices use credits 1.5 times faster. See how Kindroid's calls compare in our AI girlfriend voice call and AI girlfriend video rankings.
Is Kindroid safe and legit?
Kindroid is run by Beautifully Incorporated, with an address on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, and the App Store lists the same seller. The privacy policy says chats are encrypted at rest and in transit so staff cannot view them in normal operation, and the FAQ says support cannot see your chats. A safety system scans your messages, not the AI's replies, for three red lines.
Two points to weigh. The privacy policy says some data disclosures may count as a "sale" under US state laws, and vendors may be used to build user profiles. And age checks are unusual: paying counts as verification, while free accounts are screened by a background age-estimation system, with a Yoti check if flagged. Full details are in is Kindroid safe.
