Which AI girlfriend apps work in India
The apps we rank run in a normal phone or desktop browser from India, and Nomi AI and Replika are listed in the Indian App Store, both rated 18+. We found no government order blocking any of the apps we rank, although India has ordered adult websites and streaming apps blocked before, as the law section below explains.
The bigger practical questions in India are payment and language. Most web apps bill in US dollars and some Indian cards decline recurring foreign charges, while only a few apps offer Hindi. The sections below cover both. To try apps before paying anything, see the best free AI girlfriend apps.
UPI, cards and rupee prices
There are two ways to pay in rupees. GoLove AI lists UPI in Indian rupees at its own checkout. And in the App Store, Apple accepts UPI, Visa, Mastercard and Apple Account balance in India, with Net Banking for adding funds (Apple Support), which covers Nomi AI and Replika:

Every other app on this page bills in US dollars on an international card. Recurring card payments in India follow Reserve Bank of India e-mandate rules: your bank must notify you at least 24 hours before each charge (RBI), and payments above ₹15,000 need extra authentication each time (RBI). If a merchant's recurring billing is not set up for Indian e-mandates, a renewal can be declined even when the first payment went through, and a yearly plan means one renewal a year instead of twelve. Prepaid cards are another route: My Dream Companion suggests prepaid cards, and Joi AI says Visa or Mastercard gift and prepaid cards work when banks decline adult-platform charges.
Indian characters and Hindi
Several apps now have Indian characters, which matters more to many users than the menu language:
- OurDream runs an "Indian AI girlfriend" character page.
- Selira AI added Indian to its ethnicity filter.
- FantasyGF and HeyGF have character profiles from India; HeyGF has three.
- DreamGF has an Indian girls category, and GoLove AI an Indian option in its character creator.

What Indian law says
India's IT Act is written around publishing and transmitting material. Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 covers publishing or transmitting in electronic form "any material which is lascivious or appeals to the prurient interest," and section 67A covers material "which contains sexually explicit act or conduct," with prison terms of up to five years on a first conviction under 67A (IT Act). Sending explicit images to other people is the risky part, so keep anything an app creates to yourself.
The government also blocks sites. In July 2025 the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered 25 streaming platforms blocked for obscene content, citing sections 67 and 67A (Gulf News), and adult websites have been blocked in batches, including 63 in 2022 (Business Today). We found no order blocking an AI companion app.
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, notified on November 13, 2025, add parental-consent duties for children's data, but most of those rules come into force 18 months after publication (MeitY). Telegram bots and APKs aimed at India
Searches like "Indian AI girlfriend Telegram" and "AI girlfriend Hindi APK" are full of unofficial bots and repackaged apps. None comes from the apps we rank. Telegram bots receive every message you send them, and APKs from file-sharing sites can carry malware. Google has found over 50 times more malware from internet-sideloaded sources than on Google Play (Android Developers Blog).

Why was my card declined for an AI girlfriend subscription?
Indian cards follow Reserve Bank of India e-mandate rules for recurring payments: your bank must notify you at least 24 hours before each charge, and payments above ₹15,000 need extra authentication. Renewals from foreign merchants not set up for this can be declined. Paying through the App Store with UPI, or with GoLove AI's UPI option, avoids the problem.
