Why people look for a Talkie alternative
Talkie does voice well for free, so people who search for apps like Talkie are usually after something it will not do:
- Memory. Our data rates Talkie's memory as conversational, and free users have daily recall limits. Characters do not build a long history.
- Adult chat. Talkie bans pornographic content and allows users from age 14. Adults who want 18+ roleplay need an app built for adults.
- iPhone access. The main app left the US App Store in December 2024, leaving the website and the separate Talkie Lab app.
- Energy and ads. Free chat runs on an energy meter topped up by ads or gems.
- Refunds. Fees and gem recharges are generally non-refundable.
Our Talkie review covers what it does well, and Is Talkie safe? covers its age rules.

All five alternatives shown take live calls, like Talkie, and all keep a long-term memory, which Talkie does not. Four of the five also make video. The big differences are price and rules: Talkie's voice chat is free, while every alternative puts calls on a paid plan, and all but Replika allow 18+ chat. Read Secrets AI vs Talkie or Nomi AI vs Talkie for full verdicts.
What to look for in an app like Talkie
- Live calls, priced clearly. Talkie spoils you with free voice. Elsewhere, check the per-minute cost: FantasyGF uses 4 tokens a minute, Secrets AI 50 Moments and OurDream 50 coins. Our voice call ranking compares them all.
- Memory you can rely on. If characters forgetting you is the problem, pick an app whose memory is its core: Secrets AI, Nomi AI or Kindroid.
- Video. Talkie makes clips from chats. Most picks make short videos too, and SweetDream AI adds live video calls. See our AI girlfriend video ranking.
- A store app. If you want an App Store app, Nomi AI, Kindroid and Replika have one.
Free alternatives to Talkie
No pick matches Talkie's free voice chat, since calls are paid everywhere else. For free text chat, seven of the eight picks are free to start:
- Secrets AI: 20 messages a day, no images or calls.
- Nomi AI: One-to-one chat, 400-character messages.
- TryNectar AI: 15 messages and 10 images a day.
- Replika: Free chat, romance and calls are paid.
- Kindroid: Limited free tier on the Lite model.
OurDream has no free plan. Our free AI girlfriend ranking compares every free plan we track.
How we chose these Talkie alternatives
We started from the 31 apps in our AI girlfriend ranking and kept only those that take live voice calls, since voice is the reason most people use Talkie. We then ordered them by overall score, which weighs conversation, memory, pictures and video, value, voice and trust. Replika is the only pick that, like Talkie, does not allow 18+ chat; it is here for readers who want a clean companion with calls.
General character apps such as Character.AI and PolyBuzz are not in our ranking, so they are not picks, but you can compare them in Character AI vs Talkie and PolyBuzz vs Talkie. Talkie scores 6.6. Our methodology explains every weight.
